Overview

Supported by the last western retreat of the Trap Hills, Belpech is full of places reminiscent of its rich medieval past. In the 11th century, a castle-fort, whose remains can still be distinguished, was built. The village, first mentioned in the 11th century, developed below the hill, on the site of a pre-existing Gallo-Roman town named Garnac . It still presents today beautiful houses with wood panels and corbelling. Located on rue Tournefeuille, the house of Cardinal Guillaume de Curti with its Gothic double bay windows is still visible. It survived the wars of religion and the great fire of 1791\\. The jewel of Belpech remains the sculpted Romanesque portal of the Saint-Saturnin church. The church that houses it is in Romanesque style and was built in 1321, on the site of a primitive church.
