Overview

"The first steps of feminism in Corsica (early 20th century)" by Vanessa ALBERTI, Senior lecturer in contemporary history, Università di Corsica Pasquale Paoli / Laboratory places, identities Spaces and Activities / CNRS, curator of the exhibition "Feminine'Isula". A first approach to the pioneers of female emancipation can be outlined. This is done through the press, a medium living its golden age under the Third Republic, notably with the publication of the feminist newspaper "La Fronde ajaccienne" in 1904. Moreover, in this perspective the role of island teachers needs to be reassessed. This profession, bringing social status and financial independence, allows women to live independently and participate in debates on the acquisition of political rights. The conference will be followed by a guided tour of the exhibition "Feminin'Isula".
