Overview

Conference: “Evolution of the design in the automotive sector: The Škoda Story” On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Paris will open its doors to the public on Saturday, 20 September 2025. Located just a stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower, the Embassy invites visitors to explore its magnificent reception rooms and garden, usually closed to the public. This year, both historical heritage and contemporary creativity will be in the spotlight. A conference on the evolution of the design in the automotive sector will complement the programme. Benjamin Cuq, an automotive expert, author and journalist, will retrace the history of the Škoda automobile brand from its beginnings to the era of electric mobility. Founded in 1895 by Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, the brand is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year. Alongside the historical furnishings and architectural elements of the residence, visitors will be able to admire an exhibition of contemporary design pieces created by leading Czech brands and studios. An outdoor exhibition displayed on the Embassy’s fence will also showcase the best of today’s Czech industrial design. Acquired by the Czechoslovak government in 1924, the townhouse built in 1912 has served as the Embassy of Czechoslovakia for decades, and since 1993, as the Embassy of the Czech Republic.
