Diongre: From the Maritime District to the Albert District
In the early 1920s, Joseph Diongre worked with other architects to build several social housing complexes in what was then known as the European Quarter (today's Maritime Quarter). Still owned by Logement Molenbeekois, some of these listed buildings, in which each architect expressed their style while taking into account the constraints of size and cost, are now in need of in-depth renovation in a district that is itself undergoing change with the development of the Tour & Taxis site. A little further away, in the Jette area, Joseph Diongre built a number of private homes, including one for his friend, the poet Jef Mennekens, in 1927: the Withuis, considered one of the capital's finest Art Deco creations, a total work of art, featuring the geometric codes of modernism, for which Joseph Diongre also designed the interior. This is a house whose restoration and renovation are due to begin soon. In collaboration with Arkadia.
