Dioramas: Discovering Our Cultural Landscapes
Dioramas: Discovering Our Cultural Landscapes
At the Didactics Team of ARAE Patrimonio, we believe that one of the best ways to get to know our landscapes is by understanding how a community has evolved—from its origins to the present day—and by recognizing the buildings and silhouettes that make it unique.
Every town and city holds within its heritage the seed of sustainable development, though this value often remains hidden behind a lack of awareness of what truly defines each place.
With this idea in mind, we created the workshops “Dioramas: Our Cultural Landscapes”, designed to spark curiosity about architecture and encourage people to connect with their surroundings in a new way.
During the workshops, we analyze the profiles of façades and distinctive landmarks that shape each town’s heritage map. Then, participants—especially the youngest ones—build their own small-scale dioramas, reimagining their streets and everyday spaces from their own perspective.
Through this creative and hands-on activity, we learn by doing and playing, discovering that heritage goes far beyond monuments. It also includes the natural, social, and emotional dimensions that give meaning to the places we inhabit.
These workshops follow the principles of the Faro Convention and the National Plan for Education and Heritage promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, both of which encourage citizens to take an active role in appreciating and preserving shared heritage.
A series of workshops organized by La Fábrica Sociocultural Center in Mislata introduces young participants to the experience of observing the historical elements around us, focusing especially on the spaces surrounding La Fábrica.
Specific materials have been created so that the main participants are children aged 3 to 5. The workshop has been adapted and redesigned especially for the youngest learners.
An opportunity to learn, create, and see our surroundings with new eyes.
An invitation to discover that heritage also lives within us.
