Overview

The Cultural Centre traces the history of the Renoir family. Attached to this corner of Champagne, Auguste Renoir will make many masterpieces. At the back of the family home, the workshop reveals its universe. Nothing predestined Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841 - 1919) to one day come to Essoyes, but it was enough that he crossed paths with a native girl from the village. Renoir met Aline Charigot, future Madame Renoir, in 1880 in Paris. Like a scene that could have been filmed by their son Jean Renoir, love is at the rendezvous: charmed by his natural beauty, the painter offers to become his model, soon giving rise to a love affair. The one who will therefore be an immutable support for Renoir, leads him to his small village of Champagne. Here again, the charm operates: from the hilly wine landscapes to the simplicity and sweetness of life, pushing summer after summer the Renoir family to return to the Champagne lands.
