Overview

Culminating at 240 meters above sea level, the Mont-Aimé mound seems to have been occupied since the Neolithic and then became the seat of a Gallic oppidum. In 1210, the Countess Blanche of Navarre, mother of Thibault IV, built the castle of Mont-Aimé. A few years later, nearly 200 people convinced of Catharism were burned. From 1239, the castle became a second home of the Counts of Champagne. The Castle is gradually dismantled: its stones will be used to build houses in the surrounding villages. During the Hundred Years' War, the Castle suffered three sieges led by the English. At the end of the war, it was decided to destroy it: its stones will be used for the construction of houses around. In 1815, after the French campaign and the fall of Napoleon I, a parade of 300,000 soldiers and 85,000 horses gave glory to Tsar Alexander of Russia.
