Discover the Fort of BRON
Built in 1877 under the direction of General Séré de Rivières. Military belt of Lyon - good state of conservation. It was charged, thanks to the armament which it contained, (pieces of 155mm, or 120 mm – mortars of 220mm) to forbid a potential enemy coming from the heights of Chassieu or Saint-Priest, to advance towards Lyon, or to install its own guns which could have, Then bomb the city. Trapezoidal in shape, well characteristic of the polygonal fortification, it is protected throughout its perimeter by a dry ditch that prohibits any investment of the central massif by an infantry assault. Its premises are covered with a mass of earth in order to absorb the effects of the projectiles (burst layer). In the event of war, its garrison was increased to 841 gunners and infantrymen. More than 1500 m² of various stores, housed the supplies of ammunition, food, fuel, materials, etc. Rather quickly the progress of the artillery made this type of fortification obsolete, and unsuitable.
