The church, built from 1905 to 1908 to become the "Montmartre Alsacien", became the basilica of the Sacred Heart in 1923\\. Badly damaged in 1944-1945, its reconstruction lasted until 1958\\. Today it preserves many works of art testifying to the religious and secular history of the twentieth century in the municipality of Lutterbach.
