Overview

In the municipality of Lussat, in the heart of the Gouzon sedimentary basin, northeast of the Creuse, the Landes pond is rich in a very wide variety of species. It is a unique site in Limousin. It is the refuge of more than 950 animal species, including more than 240 bird species observed, more than 40 species of dragonflies, bats including the Barbastelle (classified as vulnerable at the world level) or batrachian and amphibian species including the very rare crested newt. It is home to more than 480 plant species, some of which are reedbeds (notably the Upper Sedge or the Great Fluke), others aquatic meadows housing species of great heritage interest. 57 species are classified as remarkable because they are very rare, threatened or even protected in the region or throughout France.
