Overview

The convent of the Récollectines de Givet is based(established) in 1680 by the nuns of Philippeville who received from it the authorisation of the king Louis XIV. In 1791, the building(ship) will be requisitioned by military authorities. Given up(Sold) to the municipality in 1866, he(it) becomes nursery school and elementary. The chapel will be transformed into room of shows " Méhul ", then into theatre, but, dilapidated, demolished(destroyed) in 1965\\. The old(former) convent, preserved thanks to a registration(inscription) in conformance with(for) historic monuments in 1978, welcomes the Pierre Tassin cultural centre today: media library and toy library local elections, dancing rooms, rooms of exhibitions(exposures) and cultural events are done up there.
