Discovering the Larzac Lighthouse
Living illustration of the agro-pastoral vocation of Larzac, the tower of Viala-du-Pas-de-jaux was erected in 1430 next to the home of the Knights Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem (existing since the fourteenth century) at the request of the inhabitants of the village in order to be able to take refuge in time of war and to store the grain harvests. Restoration work has restored this tower to its warrior character with its five floors, its walkway with machicolations and its adjoining buildings that are the Logis des Chevaliers and the Grange. All these buildings make it possible to host a good part of the year permanent and temporary exhibitions as well as animations (costumed visits and discovery games for children). The reception area and the shop remain open all year for any information on the history of the Templars and Hospitallers. The shop is full of souvenirs for the whole family but also of regional gastronomic products, handicrafts and the bar offers cold or hot drinks
