Overview

The Counts of Armagnac built their castle at the tip of the Lectoure spur in the middle of the 14th century. In 1473, the building was destroyed by the troops of Louis XI and was partially rebuilt and refurbished until the 17th century by the royal power. Today there remains only the west wing, invested by the hospital which is built on its ruins in the eighteenth century. The northwest bastion erected in the 17th century was completely rebuilt in 2014. Old hospital: In 1758, Bishop Claude François de Narbonne-Pelet asked Louis XV for the remains of the castle of the Counts of Armagnac to build a hospital-manufacture. The work lasted from 1759 to 1766\\. The western end of the castle was preserved and used as an outbuilding. The rest is destroyed to make way for a large "U" plan building placed in the perspective of Rue Royale.
