Overview

Village of 5500 inhabitants, established on a hill above the Rhone valley, crossed by the Seille and bordered partly by the Ouvèze. The oldest Neolithic site in France, dating from the 6th millennium BC, was discovered in the commune of Courthezon. Around the ancient Roman Castrum, the village develops over time protected by powerful ramparts at 12°s. Famous for his troubadours and love classes, Courthézon belonged to the Principality of Orange until his incorporation into the kingdom of France on May 29, 1731\\. His destiny will beat to the rhythm of the turbulent history of his Princes. The exploitation of the stone quarries of Saint Georges and the extraction of salt for the preservation of food, as well as the manufacture of the broom sorghum have made the reputation of Courthézon. Today, it enjoys the reputation of its Côtes du Rhône vineyards and its Châteauneuf du Pape appellation.
