Overview

Join archaeologist Neil Jackman for a walk up the storied slopes of Tibradden Mountain. Along the way, Neil will discuss the prehistoric landscapes of the Dublin Mountains and the intervisibility of its monuments. We’ll visit the mountaintop cairn, and hear about what was discovered when it was excavated by antiquarians in 1849. We'll also discuss the mythology and folklore of Tibradden, and its legendary connections to a famous high king who was slain by the Vikings.

Places are limited so please book in advance. This walk will take approximately 2-3 hours and involves walking uphill on uneven ground and forest paths. Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. If weather conditions and time permits, the walk maybe extended to include Fairycastle. The meeting point is the car park of Tibradden Woods and the event will begin promptly at 11 am.

This walk is part of the Dublin Mountains Community Archaeology initiative by Dún Laoghaire and South Dublin County Councils and Dublin Mountains Partnership with support from The Heritage Council and is managed by Abarta Heritage and Archaeology & Built Heritage.
