Overview
Saint-Riquier deconsecrated chapel of the former EHPAD of La Gorgue - This chapel, today municipal heritage of the city of La Gorgue, is for the use of the association Abbaye de Beaupré Étude et Sauvegarde du Site which notably strives to make known the site of Beaupré-sur-la-Lys and the story related to it:
- Exhibition of part of the archaeological furniture from the archaeological site of the former Cistercian abbey of the Cistercians of Beaupré-sur-la-Lys (decorated pavements, drains, glazed tiles, architectural elements, objects of daily life).
- Descriptive panels of the buildings in the abbey square (abbess' residence, refectory wing, chapter wing, cloister’s well,...). These panels complete the visit of the site. Other panels retrace the life of the site over the centuries.
- Panels evoking the British military airfields of the Beaupré peninsula during the First World War and the squadrons that succeeded there from the end of 1914 until the month of April 1918.
- Exhibition of airmen’s uniforms (vintage and copies), objects and documents related to the military occupation of the site. For more info: contact.abess@gmail.com find us also on FB: @beaupresurlalys
