Exhibition on liberation in the Gard
Originally installed in the former convent of the Augustinians, near the square house where the directory of the department was established, the Departmental Archives will follow, throughout the nineteenth century, the pilgrimages of the Prefecture, from the former bishopric to the Rivet Hotel, before taking over the Rue Feuchères hotel in 1857. In 1911, the Archives moved to the former major seminary of Nîmes, rue des Chassaintes. Over the decades, with the massive influx of documents during the second half of the 20th century, the building was saturated and no longer met conservation standards. In 1999, the department decided to build a specific building, better suited to the conservation of funds. In 2013, a new page in the history of the Departmental Archives was opened, with the installation in the new premises of Rue du Forez.
