Overview

The starting point is the washhouse behind the town hall. From there, your guide offers you the opportunity to discover this Lot village so rich in history from the Gallo-Roman era to the industrial age. Ancient Gallo-Roman city, Duravel, then named Diolindum was founded by the Romans to be a military station on the great strategic route from Bordeaux to Lyon. In the 11th century, Duravel had a priory dependent on the abbey of Moissac founded by Clovis and restored by Charlemagne. The bodies of three Saints from Palestine and Egypt, Hilarion, Agathon and Poemon, are brought there. They are still found in the church where since the 12th century, they have been the object of pilgrimages and, every five years, of a feast of the exhibition. Your guide/speaker is the president of the Committee for the history and the valorization of the Heritage of Duravel and the valleys Olt-Thèze. More modest remains in size are found in the Jean Marrane museum, opposite the church, open during the European Heritage Days. Informations Free.
