Overview

As part of Heritage Days 2025, dedicated to Art Deco, the City of Brussels invites you to discover the work of François Malfait through an exhibition at the Athénée Robert Catteau, one of his most emblematic works. A particularly brilliant character, François Malfait headed the Architecture Department of the City of Brussels between 1912 and 1941, a period that fully coincided with the rise and triumph of the Art Deco style. François Malfait played a major role in the architectural and urban development of Brussels, designing buildings, town-planning schemes, monuments, renovations and different restoration projects. Explanatory panels in the lobby of the Athénée Robert Catteau will introduce you to this multi-faceted personality and some of his outstanding achievements. The exhibition is available in French, Dutch and English, and is organised by the City of Brussels' Historical Heritage Unit.
