Located in the historic district of Vieux Tours, a stone’s throw from Place Plumereau, the Natural History Museum is a place open to the environment and biodiversity. The permanent exhibition presents a collection of naturalised animals from around the world (Europe, America, Asia, Oceania) and from the Centre-Val-de-Loire region stemming from different legacies made to the city during the century. The temporary exhibition Au Fil de l'eau. The aquatic wildlife of Touraine, invites you to dive into the crystalline waters and diverse ecosystems of Touraine. Discover the hidden secrets of rivers, ponds and lakes in this iconic region where every drop of water is home to vibrant and essential life. Through interactive installations, aquariums and reconstructions of aquatic environments, meet a multitude of animal species, from fish to amphibians, including birds and aquatic mammals. Admire the majesty of zander, the grace of the European otter, and the mesmerizing ballet of frogs in the heart of their natural habitat. The exhibition also highlights the importance of conserving these fragile ecosystems. Discover how local and individual actions can help preserve the aquatic biodiversity of Touraine. Educational workshops and research by experts in biology and ecology allow you to better understand current environmental issues and aquatic habitat restoration efforts.
