Free visit of the gardens of the Ballue
Inspired by baroque Italy, these gardens were designed in the 1970s by the publisher Claude Arthaud as well as by the great French architects François Hébert-Stevens and Paul Maymont. The editor expressed herself as follows The park must have a rigorous plan ' while spreading to the wind a kind of disordered geometry. This ambitious architectural project was carried out after an abandonment of the gardens for more than 30 years. It offers a playful and labyrinthine journey in a vegetal universe that evokes the magical world of Alice in Wonderland, where you can discover thirteen green rooms under mannerist influence. In this baroque garden, each perspective has been thought through to allow visitors to blend into the landscape, as in the labyrinth inspired by the brutalist architectural movement Le Corbusier. Further on, a regular garden designed by the architect François Hébert-Stevens features a Louis XIII castle, commissioned by the marquis Gilles Ruellan in 1615. The geometric, triangular paths and hexagonal crowns underline the classical inspiration of these gardens. However, the setting in volume distinguishes it from a French garden. These two gardens form a harmonious encounter between contemporary utopian audacity and the heritage of ancient styles. The last garden, named Garden of the moats due to its implantation on the old ditches of the fortified manor defies the slope by its different levels. Designed and built by the current owners, we discover a botanical collection of CCVS approved boxwood and a pond populated with ducks and geese. Informations Entry at usual rates.
