Overview

Live an immersion in the heart of Martigues by traveling 7 km under the theme of fresh water. Bernard, president of the association Randonnée Ski Découverte (RSD), will guide you through a surprising historical heritage where each street corner reveals a vestige related to water. Discover the history of the Canal de Martigues, which once drew its source from Tholon, feeding the neighborhoods of Ferrières and the Island under the influence of the Counts of Provence. On the way, you will admire fountains still in use and old buildings transformed into cisterns, witnesses of a past where fresh water was vital. You will also explore the surroundings of the aqueduct of Martigues, discrete and melted into the landscape, and learn surprising anecdotes about the district of Jonquières, formerly marshy, where the rushes were plunged to attract game. One of the jewels of this visit is the fountain of the Place Mirabeau, moved from one neighborhood to another by the family Jourdan, who also owned the old hotel La Goutte d'Or. And looking up, see the old ramparts that still overlook the streets of Martigues. This hike is a unique opportunity to appreciate the importance of fresh water in the history and urban landscape of Martigues, while enjoying rich local anecdotes. Informations Single rate: 5€ Book
