Geological Heritage of County Meath Exhibition

Buvinda House Reception, Co. Meath
Show on the map
18 - 20 August 2025
Overview

The geology of Meath includes all its bedrock, subsoils and soils. Often summarised only as ‘the plains of Royal Meath’, it is in fact a landscape with an intricate and spectacular history, containing a multitude of geological features and sites that owe their origins to complex, dynamic and fascinating processes. This variation influences the county’s land-use patterns, farming tradition, habitats and biodiversity. We interact with our natural landscape on a daily basis and by understanding its formation we can learn more about our origins, our surrounding environment, and our sense of place. This exhibition has been complied by Dr. Robbie Meehan, geologist and author of The Making of Meath: The County's Natural Landscape History.
