Glasgow Black History Walking Tour
The walks take participants on a historical journey through Glasgow’s mercantile past and examine the city’s connections with tobacco, slavery and the abolition movement.
The Glasgow Black History walking tours highlight the role of slavery and the trade goods such as tobacco and abolition for the city of Glasgow.
They also think about the popular abolitionist movement in the city, Black abolitionist figures who came to Glasgow and inspired popular support.

Event Attendance Agreement — BLACK HISTORY MONTH SCOTLAND
The Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) is Scottish anti-racism organisation that works to eliminate racial discrimination and promote racial justice across Scotland. Our mission is to protect, enhance and promote the rights of Black and minority ethnic communities across all areas of life in Scotland.
We advocate for race equality, work with BME communities, engage with public sector organisations and promote race and rights education. We also coordinate the programme of events for Black History Month every year in October, and have since 2001, to highlight and celebrate the histories of African, Caribbean and Asian people in Scotland.
The route is mostly downhill and flat as we walk down Castle Street, past College Street and along Ingram Street.
The walk is around 1.5 - 2 hours long, with the longest bit of continuous walking being 5-10 minutes.
The walk is step free but does involve crossing roads and walking along some cobbled paths with uneven road surface.
Please email amy@crer.org.uk if you have any questions about the tour route.
