Glasgow Requiem: The Walk
Join us for a 90-minute audio-guided walking experience in celebration of Glasgow’s 850th anniversary. During this unique 90-minute walk you'll hear all about the city’s hidden histories. Journey through some of Glasgow’s oldest and most iconic sites — from the Royal Infirmary to the Necropolis — and discover forgotten stories from the city’s medieval and pre-industrial past.
A 90-minute communal audio-guided walking experience exploring the hidden histories of Glasgow in celebration of the city's 850th anniversary. Narrated by Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot, Vigil, Outlander), with a rich cast of voices and an original score.
The Walk explores what Glasgow was built from and on, and is a way to gain new perspectives on the very first stories, people and places that were central to Glasgow’s evolution, revealing little-known narratives along the way. It’s a chance to think about the Glasgow we could have built had we not built the one we have.
Part of Glasgow Requiem, a five-year creative programme by Aproxima Arts, this immersive journey blends history, fiction, music, and memory — inviting you to see the city anew.
This is a self-guided walk that can be experienced anytime between 10am and 5pm.
Communal walks began at 12:00 each day.
Overview
Aproxima is an arts collective based in Glasgow founded in 2018 by Angus Farquhar, one of Scotland’s leading artists. It creates multi-disciplinary work that spans live productions, community food initiatives, creative design and public interventions. Aproxima works at both a hyperlocal and national scale, often outdoors or in unusual or unused places with the involvement of local people. Each project is unique and an evolving part of the whole, driven by an inspiring core collaborative team of writers, artists, designers and producers.
Toilet facilities (including Wheelchair accessible WC) are accessible at St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art along the route
The Walk is experienced completely in the open air and involves grassy paths, old worn steps and slippery cobbles.
When wet, it should be undertaken with due care and attention and is completely at your own risk with forewarning of potential hazards.
