Gold, silver, bronze. A history of the Olympic medal
Founded in 864, the Monnaie de Paris has had its art workshops in the centre of Paris, at 11 quai de Conti since 1775
In 2017, the Monnaie de Paris opened its doors to the public to reveal its manufacturing secrets through a sensory experience around metal in its corporate museum. A veritable window on the factory, this museum presents the heritage collections and the exceptional know-how of the Monnaie de Paris artisans. Art crafts and priceless treasures are presented in a fun and interactive way.
The majestic neoclassical building also houses a shop - where visitors will find, among other things, art products and coin collections - chef Guy Savoy's three-starred restaurant in the salons sur Seine and the Café Frappé, which offers fresh dishes cooked with products from the Paris region.
Did you know?
La Monnaie de Paris, famous for its coinage, also made its mark on Olympic history by producing the first modern-day Olympic medals for the Athens Games in 1896, and by continuing to produce medals for various Olympiads, including those of 1924 and 1968, illustrating its essential role in the celebration of the Olympic Games 2024.
