Origins of the war: the concern of Otto von Bismarck, minister-president of Prussia, to build a German empire capable of competing with France in full industrial expansion, as well as the error of Napoleon III overestimating the capabilities of the French army against the Prussian army. France capitulates on September 2, 1870, leading to the fall of the Empire and the proclamation of the Third Republic. On May 10, 1871, the treaty of Frankfurt seals the French defeat. It ended a conflict where 17 young Legéens had died. It will generate in the 20th century the first and second world wars.
