Overview

The visit is provided by the guides of the Pastoral Tourism of 41. The church of Saint Jean-Baptiste is a building redesigned in the 16th century, on the foundations of a chapel erected after the Hundred Years' War. This extension was the result of an initiative by the local lords, the Rougemont, who wanted to establish a parish separate from the parish of Saint-Claude-Froidmentel, on the opposite bank of the Loir. It is a monument of rectangular plan flanked by buttresses, with a high roof cushioned at its ends by sharp gables and surmounted by a spire of framework. The interior is covered with a wainscot whose sides are decorated with monster heads at their ends. Attention is particularly drawn to two pieces of decoration from the Renaissance, for which the lords of Rougemont had to call upon artists familiar with this kind of work: the portal and the enfire intended to house their tomb.
