It is in the XVIIth century when was built the located current castle in Peyrins, indeed from stones of a building already existing for century. The history(story) of the castle of Sallmard was marked by two characters who were, each in their own way, a reflexion of their time(period). Soffrey of Calignon, chancellor of king of Navarre Henry IV and one of the main writers of the Edict of Nantes (by which the king of France recognises the freedom of worship(cult) by the Protestants), was the first occupant of the castle. He(It) had of it the pleasure only little time(weather), but its derivation, from Calignon, then from Chabrière and from Sallmard, lived the house until September, 1935, date in which the Chesneau family entered this house until our days. German Chesneau, grandmother of the current occupying of the castle, managed a reception centre for children then a medical educational institute within the castle until 1982\\. During the Second World War, she saved one hundred and thirty-nine Jewish children of Nazi barbarism by hiding them among her residents. She(It) receives the medal of the Just men by the State of Israel for her(its) heroism and her(its) devotion.
