Overview

In a former prison camp, placed under French command in June 1945, a seminary is created for the German theology students who are prisoners, whose spiritual direction is entrusted to the German Abbot Franz Stock (1904-1948). During the two years of existence of the seminary, from 1945 to 1947, nearly 950 priests were trained there. Its chapel is decorated with murals by Franz Stock. They are today the only vestige of this seminary which saw the rebirth of the German Catholic clergy reduced to nothing by Nazism. It is also one of the first examples of reconciliation between France and Germany.
