Overview
The museum is housed in the former Lambinet Hotel, a three-storey building surmounted by a pediment. It was built in the second half of the eighteenth century by Porchon, contractor of the King’s buildings. Inside, rooms still have their original panelling and chimneys. The heirs of the Lambinet family, the last owners of the hotel, bequeathed it to the City of Versailles in 1929 to make it a museum, opened to the public in 1932.
