Overview

The site of the Castella de Labarre is known for having once been a fortified place, in medieval and then in modern times. The remains of the fortification elevations and some of the peripheral developments - ditches in particular - still bear witness to its past vocation. The Castella is now accessible by a pleasant and easy path that crosses the site. An association was formed in the course of 2020 to help in the knowledge as well as in the promotion of the site. Brief history of the site: The Castella de Labarre is a castral site whose existence is attested by the texts from 1170\\. The stronghold is then also the living place of a community of inhabitants settled around the «castle» which dominates the hold. The whole is encircled and protected by dry ditches but also by the relief of the rock of Labarre with steep marked. This stronghold appears to have been abandoned early, although probably gradually. Le Castella de Labarre est proche de l'église du hameau de Labarre qu'il domine. Pour le rejoindre, s'engager sur le chemin balisé qui s'ouvre à main droite sur la rue de l'Église et qui borde le cimetière.
