Guided tour and demonstration of the GrandPalaisRmn Moulding Workshop
The Ateliers d'Art de la Réunion des musées nationaux — Grand Palais (Rmn-GP) brings together the Louvre’s moulding and chalcography workshops. Created within the Louvre, one year after the opening of the museum in 1794, the Atelier de Moulage was created to produce plaster reproductions to complement the museum’s collections and to feed the French fine arts schools. He later sold his productions to other institutions and individuals in France and abroad. Since its creation, the workshop has enriched its collections with works from the French and European collections to preserve and operate a collection of more than 6,000 models ranging from prehistory to the 20th century. Created in the same period, the chalcography workshop preserves 14,000 engraved copper plates deposited by the Louvre Museum.
