Overview

The House of the Memory(Souvenir) of Gauze is the commemorative site of the massacre of August 25th, 1944 committed by soldiers SS, who left behind them 124 3-month-old victims in 89 years and an almost entirely destroyed market town. Ruins succeeded reconstruction of Gauze, then oversight(forgetting) of this drama in national history(story) during more than fifty years. Opened in 2006 and inaugurated in 2008 by the President of the Republic, the House of the Memory(Souvenir) has already welcomed more than 60 000 visitors, of whom near(about) half of school. It plays to them a pedagogic and public-spirited role, by making footbridges with the actuality, alerting them on danger of extreme ideas and of speeches of hatred and sensitising them on the fate(spell) of civilians in conflicts. She proposes her exhibitions(exposures) to her visitors throughout the year, permanent and temporary, of animations and a movie of stories.
