Overview

The Musée de la Rubanerie Cominoise traces the history of weaving, which dates back more than 850 years. Comines was known for its textile tradition. The museum recalls the most beautiful pages of the «Bleus Vintes», the rubaniers in blue sarrau. The centerpieces of the museum are about thirty old looms, from the 1700s to the present day... From the first and magnificent looms that were in the main hall of the building to the needle looms from Switzerland or Italy, which gradually replaced the shuttle looms. In addition to the instruments and machines used for the preparation and finishing of ribbons, this museum also has windows with shuttles and multicolored ribbons. You will discover the many uses of ribbons: from safety belts to boat buoys, shoe laces and landing cables for aircraft carriers. The museum entrance includes a guided tour.
