Located at the crossroads between Ariège, Aude and Lauragais, Calmont’s past has been eventful. Its foundation dates from the thirteenth century and already at that time the count of Foix and that of Toulouse claimed sovereignty! But it was from the 16th century with the birth of Protestantism that the destiny of the bastide shifted towards a long period of suffering and wars.
