Overview

The castle of Kernabat is an important ensemble comprising a main building with a wing in return, a chapel, a body of commons, a dovecote, an entrance gate, a mail and terraced gardens. The estate dates for the most part from the last third of the 17th century (some architectural details date back to the 16th century, when a first manor house was built). The house, rebuilt around 1680-1700 for Claude d'Acigné, encompasses the old manor house of the late 16th century. Sold in 1888 to the Kerouartz, the castle was restored in 1901 by Dussauze, architect in Angers, who rebuilt the facade on the chapel garden, and modified roofs of the commons. The building, abandoned since 1912, was recently bought by a religious congregation.
