Overview

Remoulins, over the Gardon: history of a church, a village, a territory

Our Lady of Bethlehem, a former parish church, is distinguished by its three-toothed comb bell tower, particularly remarkable. Transformed over time into a public school, prison then town hall, it was used as a municipal building until 1977. It has recently been the subject of an initial restoration phase thanks to the support of Europe, the State, the Region, the Department and the Heritage Foundation. It adjoins a squared donjon with a boss from the 13th century, topped by a concrete tank now abandoned. Together, they are a strong symbol of Remoulins, crossroads and gateway to the Pont du Gard, which has developed at the pace of the floods of the Gardon, which have deeply marked its urban organization. 👉 This day invites you to:
  • discover the history of the church and the village,
  • participate in guided tours of the monument and the ancient center, offered by the association of Les Deux Tours,
  • attend a conference on the Gardon and floods, in partnership with the Heritage Foundation and the Syndicat mixte des Gorges du Gardon. A moment rich in discoveries, at the crossroads of history, heritage and nature.
Informations Free. Without a reservation. Visitor management will be ensured with rotations between the village visits. Several groups and departures throughout the two days. Limited access to conferences. Phone 0466226888
