Phalsburg, hometown of Emile Erckmann. A city of fortified pink sandstone, Phalsbourg is still home to precious evidence of its proud military past: barracks, powder kegs, the Porte de France in the west and the Porte d'Allemagne in the east that mark the limits of the city in a magnificent architecture of Vauban. The garrison town was fortified by Vauban in 1680.
