Overview

The Crypt of the Preslots is surely an erroneous name, because no religious site existed there. It was also not an element of the castle whose enclosure stopped at the level of the current town hall. It would be a grain hall. The crypt, supposedly from the 12th century, is located near the western rampart and a tower clearly visible above the stairs of the square. Of a regular quadrangular shape, it has four bays in each room or nave, three of which are observable. A fourth existed and corresponds to the uncovered part that goes up the stairs of the parking spaces behind the media library, which gives an idea of its scale. In 1988-1989, some middle school students experienced a live history lesson. Daniel Badoinot, a maths teacher and heritage enthusiast, became the site manager to launch the development of the site. Together with three other teachers and a hundred middle school students, they dug up 40 m3 of debris with the sole force of their arms to lay bare the ground of this crypt
