Visit of the Fort of Janus.
On the occasion of the 41st edition of the European Heritage Days, the association Les Amis du Barrage Rapide, in partnership with Souvenir, Sauvegarde et Histoire Militaire and the municipality of Montgenèvre, invites you to go back in time for a week-immersive end on the eve of the Second World War. Dive into the daily life of a soldier in 1940 at Fort Janus! From 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, let yourself be guided through a unique scripted visit, at the heart of one of the most emblematic forts of the Maginot Alpine Line. At more than 2500 meters above sea level, Fort Janus opens its doors for a complete immersion in the life of soldiers stationed on the French-Italian border. In parallel, enthusiasts will be present to exhibit authentic military equipment and share their knowledge. ⚠️ Instructions for the visit to Fort Janus: – Provide suitable clothing: the temperature inside the fort can be cool, even in September. – Recommended walking shoes to comfortably evolve in the site. – Attention: access is made without ski lifts – allow walking time to reach the fort.
