Overview
Guided tour of the Saint-Georges collegiate church
Heritage in transition
Threatened by time, the Romanesque collegiate church of Faye-la-Vineuse (12th century) embodies the historical and architectural memory of the village. Its safeguarding is today a concrete issue, both patrimonial, territorial and symbolic. The guided tour offers a sensitive and engaged journey, at the crossroads of heritage, current creation and issues of preservation of ancient buildings in rural areas. Visitors will discover: – the history of the collegiate church, its sculpted capitals, its Romanesque crypt, – the current stakes of its restoration, – and an unprecedented dialogue between past and contemporary creation, through two artistic works implanted in the choir. A transenna of Joan of Arc — openwork structure designed by designer Olivia de Kertel—offers a vertical figure of regeneration. In counterpoint to the ground, a work in charred wood by artist Sophie Marchand dialogues with space and recalls the need to preserve living materials, whether they are wood or stone. In this place steeped in history, the presence of burnt wood resonates with the figure of Joan of Arc, herself consumed by fire, but whose memory still today embodies commitment and crossing. Guided tours at fixed times, on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September: • 11h45 – 12h45 • 14h – 15h • 4pm – 5pm These guided tours offer a sensitive and engaged journey through the history of the collegiate church, its symbolic dimensions, its Romanesque crypt, and the contemporary challenges of its restoration. They are also part of a reflection on contemporary creation and the link between heritage and future. This project is supported by the association Les Amis de la Collégiale, committed to promoting and transmitting this emblematic place of rural heritage.
