Overview

André Schwarz-Bart (1928-2006) is a writer of Jewish-Polish origin, Prix Goncourt in 1959 for «Le dernier des justes», a work on the history of the Jewish people and the duty of memory. Married to Simone Brumant in 1961, they both published «Un plat de porc aux bananes vertes», a novel written with four hands and the first of a romantic cycle entitled «La mulâtresse Solitude», a reference to a Guadeloupean figure of the resistance of slaves. After the failure of one of his books in Europe, André decides to settle in Guadeloupe, in this house built in the 1960s: he installs his office, preserved in the state. Simone, his wife, organizes concerts and salons on the vast covered terrace and wishes to make it a meeting place open to the Caribbean arts.
