Overview

Guided tour of the abbey enclosure and the remains of the abbey (foundations of the abbey square with its cloister, its abbatial dwelling, its refectory and its chapter room). The history of the site is retraced: its Cistercian abbey and its military occupation by about ten squadrons of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Air Force and units of the Indian Army during the First World War. Architectural heritage:

  • the different periods of construction/deconstruction, as well as the materials used, will be discussed on site.
  • The visit may be completed by the exhibition located in the deconsecrated chapel (formerly Chapelle Saint-Riquier) of the former Establishment for Dependent Elderly Persons (EHPAD) of La Gorgue, at 1 bis rue de l'abbaye de Beaupré. For security reasons, the visitor quota is limited to 15 people at a time. There is no provision for equipment to accommodate people with disabilities; however, assistance may be provided on site.
