Overview
This tour takes you to discover the thousand-year history of the first Renaissance castle built in France. Gaillon is the work of the powerful cardinal Georges I d'Amboise, a little-known but essential figure in the reign of Louis XII. Gaillon also has a rich contemporary heritage. Largely dismantled during the Revolution, Napoleon converted the site into a detention house until it was transformed into a barracks at the time of the First World War and then into a prison at the time of the Second World War.
