Guided tour of the castle of Meauce
Its particular shape, round, surrounded by its moat, bathed and fed by the river Allier makes it an original element of medieval architecture. Few castles resemble that of Meauce. The discovery of many archaeological remains (proto-historical houses, Gallo Roman villa,....) also make it interesting with regard to history. Its recent history, with a long abandonment, and the absence of modifications and improvements in the nineteenth century make Meauce an interesting element to discover. Today, its 14 ha, its dead arm to ally, the double alley of lime, the old medieval enclosure, the barns and the hamlet are fully classified as historical monuments. The castle of Meauce is located in the Natura 2000 zone and on the classified site of the Bec d'Allier (site where the Loire meets the Allier).
