Guided tour of the chapel of the former Galignani hospital
Inaugurated in 1866 and designed by architects Laroche and Denfer. Built between 1864 and 1866, thanks to the generosity of the Galignani brothers, the hospital-hospice that bears their name marks a spectacular advance in the hospital history of Corbeil-Essonnes. Originally, this building had 100 beds, which shows the important evolution compared to the Hôtel-Dieu which had only twenty beds at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The service was still provided by nuns alongside professional doctors. The building was expanded and modified over time as medicine progressed. Gradually, the management of the sick person and the notion of care became missions provided in the hospital by qualified personnel. The building visible from the street is not open to the public. Part of the building has been redeveloped but some parts, disused, remain unchanged. The building also includes a chapel, restored in the 2010s.
