Guided tour of the fortified house of Prat!
The fortified house of Prat, built in the thirteenth century, finds its importance in its strategic position associated with the presence of water and the defense of Blaye. In the 16th century, rebuilt in a Renaissance style during the Wars of Religion, it remains among the few fortified houses preserving its original character. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it became the property of the Chapter of Saint-Sauveur, used as a tax collection centre. During the Revolution, the fortified house of Prat was sold as a national property and turned into a farm in the 19th century. Following a succession, it is divided into two and is about to become a ruin at the end of the 20th century. Owners since 1997 of the fortified house of Prat in Générac (listed in the Additional Inventory of Historical Monuments since 2002), we strive to restore the building as faithful as possible to the original home.
