Guided tour of the listed parts of a live-in atelier in the Leopold district and discovery of the works of Marcel Hastir
The Marcel Hastir Studio, a hidden gem in the Leopold district, was the home and workplace of a famous Brussels painter for more than 75 years and a cultural centre where artists, musicians and free thinkers of all kinds gathered. Barbara, Jacques Brel, violinist Arthur Grumiaux, Abbé Pierre and Lanza del Vasto, a follower of Mahatma Gandhi, revealed their art and their thoughts there. During the war, Hastir hid Jews and resistance fighters there under the nose of the Gestapo, who were nearby. The studio was saved from demolition at the last minute in 2002 and has been preserved in its original state even after the master's death in 2011. Concerts, exhibitions and conferences are still organised there. It is a meeting place of excellence for lovers of art, culture and history, which you should definitely discover. https://ateliermarcelhastir.eu/ On display: works by M. Hastir painted since 1920/30
