It is in the historic centre of the city that is the Prefecture, since it is in this location that the forum in the roman time is located. In the IXth century is based(established) on this site the old(former) Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle convent. Rebuilt from 1670, it is confiscated as very national in 1790 and becomes the hotel of the Prefecture of Orléans in 1800\\. An extension on the main courtyard from 1861 confers on the building the aspect which we know about it today.
